SCAD Pepe Hall Renovation - Savannah, Georgia - 2011 Merit Award
Dawson Architects

Pepe Hall is a Mediterranean Revival‐style school erected in 1906 and acquired by the Savannah College of Art and Design to house in part a large loom studio and a dye lab where students can create their own organic dyes. The renovation created what jurors described as a, “surprising entry foyer, a hall of contemporary, backlit panels artistically showcasing textile fibers. It is a striking integration of old and new in a way that both maintains the integrity of the original building and announces the creative energy within.”
