Redevelopment of Ellis Square - Savannah, Georgia - 2011 Merit Award
Lominack, Kolman, Smith Architects
The redevelopment of Ellis Square has restored vitality to the heart of Savannah. Due to its open plan, water feature, and public facilities, it has quickly become "the place to be" for both Savannahians and visitors. Open public space and seating for large events, shaded areas, and a public fountain are smartly organized within geometric layers, framed by a monumental ellipse and bisected by a pedestrian grid. The result is a new public square that is unabashedly contemporary while enhancing Savannah’s historic urban fabric.
